Description
This is essentially a study in yellow, and in how other colors such as green and red can function as yellows in the context of a painting.
My father was also a painter, and he was always fascinated by yellow. Late in his life yellow became almost a visual obsession. He was also colorblind to red and green. I believe this allowed him to see much more yellow in the world. I painted this with him in mind.
There is some impasto work using stiff brushes and palette knives. An oil-compatible gel glazing medium was used to create transparent textured details in and around the edges.
The subject is a color abstraction of some of the forms and moods of the seaside on a bright hot day on Eastern Long Island. In terms of style the overall composition is influenced by Abstract Expressionism and abstract expressionist painters. Rothko and Stills are two favorites. The yellow ideas were informed by my father's love of DeKooning and his later yellow paintings.

The interaction of the yellow with the other colors is like bringing sunlight to the ocean. Beautiful study.

Really interesting flow of colours Regina. One can see the spark of interest you have as an artist with each placing of color. That you are growing with the painting. Always be one with your work and the artist will always shine through. I love the title, so fitting in spirit. Run free in the sun shine! The beach is your's!
